hi i have xp pro which was already installed on the computer when i bought it
but the computer has no disc drive is it still possible to format it?

Hi Carl:

I'm not aware of any mainstream computer since the early 1970's that
didn't have a disk drive.

Perhaps you are referring to an optical drive, i.e., a CD or DVD drive?
However, any computer that originally shipped with Windows XP would have
an optical drive.

Perhaps you are referring to a diskette drive? You don't need a diskette
to format your hard disk, since you can format your hard disk with a
Windows CD.

Yeah sorry i mean it has no CD/DVD Drive

You should then buy an external CD/DVD drive from your local PC shop. Check
with the sales man that it is bootable on your system.

Then set your BIOS to boot to the drive, put the XP CD in, restart, and
hopefully you will have luck.

Hope this helps

Hello again:

I really wonder about your situation, since I can't imagine that a
computer recent enough to have shipped with XP would not have at least a
CD drive. Perhaps the original optical drive no longer works?

In any case, you need to have an internal optical drive if you want to
reinstall XP after formatting your hard drive, since XP is not available
on diskettes. I suggest you install a DVD drive, which will set you back
about $40. You'll need a DVD drive for many other reasons as well.
