format hard drive

i can't get that far during setup. when i try to delete
existing partition, i get an error message about existing
files . . . . THANKS :)
 
One possible way:
If you don't need to recover any files or partitions from the drive,
reformat, or write 0's on the drive using your hard-drive utilities CD.
Alternatively, you can download such utilities from major hard-drive
manufacturers web sites - Seagate, for ex.

There is a difference between deleting partitions and formatting a drive.
If you have only one partition why are you trying to delete it?? and if you
delete it where is XP going to keep its setup files??
If you are trying to delete and recreate partitions use a program like partition
Manager..it does a better job.
IF you format the drive all info on it will be gone.And then you can perform a
Clean Install of XP.
If on the other hand you really wish to partition/repartition do a Google for
"partition" there are some free programs out there that will let you do this

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
