Format drive

Hi, According to Dell support I have a virus causeing
a "status of licence prevention
problem"error.0x8007050aa.I may need to format the hard
drive,but I can't get pass the log in screen in normal or
safe mode.Any suggestions.Thanks

Formatting the hard disk is a last resort. It wipes the slate -
there will be nothing left afterwards: No WinXP, not data
files, nothing. Are you sure your want to do this?

A much better way is to remove the hard disk and install
it temporarily as a slave disk in a friend's WinXP PC, then
scan it for viruses. Once it's clean, you may have to do
some repair work - post again for further instructions.

Also: It is absolutely necessary to install a good virus
scanner and firewall, and to maintain them up-to-date.

Boot with the XP CD that Dell sent with your PC..
Follow the directions as they come up to DELETE, CREATE and INSTALL Windows
XP.

If you have data on it, you may want to try a repair installation first,
backup your data elsewhere, then redo your PC:
