I want to format my C drive and reinstall XP. I have the
startup diskettes to install the XP but how do I format
the C drive?

you need to enter your system bios (usually by pressing F2 or delete when
the computer starts.)

if you look around in the bios you will find a method of selecting the boot
device priority which is usually floppy drive by default. change it to cd
rom as the first boot device and save and exit set-up.

then look for a message on start up which says 'press any key to boot from
cd rom'

you will of course need to have the installation disk in the cd drive when
you restart.

I am definitely not an expert, but I do run a high
school computer lab where I am learning a lot. I got on
the Internet and searched for 'how to format a hard
drive' picked instructions that sounded like I could
follow them and just did it. Make sure you have all the
software that goes to your computer (such as drivers,
etc.). That makes things a lot easier!!!
