Can anyone tell me how or if it's possible to format a
rewritable CD in xp? I'm trying to help a client that
just did a clean install of xp on her older Gateway P3.
It's a slow cd drive, but worked great in ME??

Thanks,

Lance

You only need to format a CDRW or CD-R for packet writing, and you will need
to install the packet writing application to do so. If the person had Direct
CD or InCD and did not have the versions for XP, they will need to upgrade
their software. There are free readers for CD's written to a CD formatted
for packet writing. Check the appropriate web sites to download the readers.

If you are going to format and use a Packet writing mode (like INCD or
DirectCD in Win9x) then you have to install one of those packages. The
inbuilt burning does not work that way, and does not format. See more
