Format and reinstall windows xp

I have new dell with xp. I got a virus and was not able to
fix the prolem unless i format and reinstall. I inserted
the installation cd followed all instructions however
everything did not format it just installed xp on the old
one. I cannot access the files and programs however the
programs are still listed on the drive. The desktop has no
icons. It is blank with just the background pic. I think
what happened is it created another partition. But can't
seem to locate it. Could someone tell me what is the best
way to completly erase, format the whole system clean and
start with a brand new install with one partition and one
user. I want the operating system set up the way it came
from the factory. Thanks

If would be best to contact Dell. Dell makes the Restore/Recover Disc's.
