Hi all! I am new to Word 2007 and I am having some problems. I work for a
company where we have a form where before, we used word from 1998, when you
used the lock/unlock button boxes came up and you could fill in information
like name, date, etc that was going to appear throughout the document. In
Word 2007, I can get it to do that but only after I hit the print command.
Is there a way to do this without having to use the print command?

You can add the Insert Form Field and Protect Document commands to the QAT,
which will give you much the same functionality as before - and if you
stiull have access to an earlier version of Word you can add the forms
toolbar from that to 2007 - see
http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm where I have used this as an
example.

If you are using a protected form, then to force updates of other fields
dependent on them (and this applied equally to earlier versions), you should
check the calculate on exit field property, however this will not force an
update on REF fields in the document header/footer. For those you need to
force an update with a macro run on exit from the last relevant field. For
that you can use the sample code at
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm

Printing the document is forcing an update to the fields - you can manually
force an update at any time by adding the above mentioned macro to a button
on the QAT.
