Force full file name for thumbnails

In the My Pictures folder, the file names under the thumbnails get cut off if
they are too long, which makes it difficult to find a specific file. Can I
change a setting somewhere to force XP to always display the full file name
under each thumbnail in all folders? I know I can do this by switching to
List instead of Thumbnails, but I need to see the thumbnail image. I need to
see if it is a jpg or tif and so need the full file name. Thanks for your
great help. Tried to go to the Photos newsgroup to ask this but it freezes
up every time. Not sure why.

There's unlikely to be a good way to make this work in Explorer, since
it would try to work with the maximum possible filename, and thus not
leave you much space to see more than one picture in a row.

If you have the Picture Tasks bar open on the LH side, then you'll see
that the full name of the selected file is shown in the Details box at
the bottom.

Some files (especially JPGs with updated EXIF tags) may have the full
file name visible in the tooltip when you hover your mouse cursor over them.

Or you might try looking at some other image library software like
* Google's Picassa (freeware)
* Office Picture Manager (free utility with Office 2003)
