I have two laptops that have xp.one has pro and one has homenever had to
restore.I have a friend who has home edition and cable access. He had 4
viruses.I got rid of them but when I connect the modem back to the computer
the cpu usage goes to 100% and everything stops.I tried to restore the
computer (dell) and it went through all the restore process (full restore)
but when the computer boots back up it's like nothing is different even the
recycle bin is the same.A restore should do like windows me right?(set up
the clock,re register redo the internet connection.).I plug the cable box
back up to the computer.(Ethernet) and cpu hits 100%.Without the box
connected to the computer it runs fine. How do I do a full restore

you want to do a reinstall it sounds like to bring the computer back to
where it was when it was brand new? Put in your dell cd boot from that and
go from there.
It sounds like there is still a virus or SPYware hanging around. Run both
with the computer in SAFE mode make sure all definitions are up to date
before you even start. I like Ad-Aware myself from lavasoft

OK are we all using the same dictionary?

In XP speak - Restore - uses a sytem restore point to reset the operating
system / registry etc to a prior date / time. This doesn't remove any
personal files or settings: it will 'uninstall' any sofwtare that was
installed be it deliberate or accidental [as in nasties coming in from the
web].

In Dell speak - Restore - using a System Restore CD set that will reinstate
the PC to Factory Fresh State. All user installed applications, data and
settings are wiped off.

In XP speak - Repair Install - resets XP to the installation CD state
[without any updates / patches or service packs]. No application or data is
lost, internet settings email etc are untuched. User requires to activate on
completion.

Which one did you use?
