Tony

I read your response to someone having the same problem I
was - IE6 would not launch; I'd only get a "send error
report" window.

I did what you suggested, which was to disable third party
browser extensions as you directed. It worked! So first
of all, thanks!

Now, is there anything else I need to do to keep this from
happening again? And do you have any idea what would have
caused it to happen in the first place? If I knew what
caused it, I could try to prevent it in the future.

Again, thanks for the original solution!

Tony,

Welcome.

But, it's only a workaround. You need to eliminate the spyware which is causing the problem.

Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com and update it:

1. Start Ad-Aware.
2. In the main screen, Click [Check for Updates] [Connect] and download the latest pattern file if available. and click Finish
3. Click Star | Next (System will now detect the spyware)
4. After the scan is finished, click "Next"
5. Select all the items (checkboxes)
NOTE: Right click on any object in the "Scan result" list and choose [Select all objects]"
6. Click Next and click OK to confirm spyware removal.

Ramesh,

I thought spyware may have had something to do with it, so
I had my wife download Ad-Aware (free version) through
cnet this morning, and had her scan the system. After it
was complete and we removed wht it found, we still had the
problem. That's when I started checking in here for an
answer.

However, maybe the version we downloaded needed to be
updated first? I'll try that when I get home.

Thanks again -

Yup. It needs to be updated often. See my utility Toolbarcop lists out the Internet Explorer browser extensions and you can disable them selectively. Check here:
