Footnote Numbers Not Showing

When inserting a footnote the numbers are not showing up in the document or
in the footnote area. I see the footnote listed but there is no number to
match it up with. Is there an option I need to set that I am missing?
 
What number format do you have selected in the Note Options?

I have 1, 2, 3,... selected.

Check the font formatting for the Footnote Reference character style and
make sure that it is not set to Hidden or Color: White.
