Footnote markers

When you insert a footnote, the footnote marker (by
default a number) is inserted in superscript at the point
of insertion. I like that.

It then inserts the footnote marker in superscript at the
beginning of the footnote. There appears to be no way to
automatically format the footnote. I don't like that.

I would like, when I insert a footnote, for Word to
generate the footnote number in normal size (or rather,
the same size as the rest of the footnote text), followed
by a full stop and a tab space, viz:

1. [text]

Can this be done automatically or does it have to be done
manually?
