I am looking for genuine free font download sites and also a
freeware/opensource font manager/viewer.

I just installed the Font Thing and wasn't that impressed... I'd skip
that one if you want an unstall/reinstall font program

Try also NG's alt.binaries.fonts and alt.binaries.fonts.floods. If you
can't get abff on your NewsServer try biggulp.readfreenews.net (Slow,
for FreeLoaders) or news.stben.net (Excellent, 50Mb per day download
limit - monitored, with a weeks layoff if you exceed, but the allowance
is very generous)

Very helpful set of subscribers, and most of the downloads are legit
(ish), depending on your local copyright laws. In practice, as long as
you're not earning from the experience the Font Police seem to turn a
blind eye for now. Of course, they might be waiting for you

There is also a small level of corrupt items, and a number of the fonts
have obscure FileNames (No surprise) or have had their names changed.
The abf group hosts an excellent utility called Font File Renamer by
Phil Engel, so I'd look for v1.33 amongst the recent posts. Use wisely -
Not all versions of Windows support LFNs, and renaming will render most
Fonts LFN

For other utilities and more FontInfo than you'll ever need (Err ...)
