font size and distance between rows

i want to use the office word to write certain very formal article,but i face
problem:
i cannot fixed the size of the words within sentence
i more particularly cannot deal with how to shorten the gap between rows,it
is now virtually 1 centimer of gap between row within my article
 
Format | Paragraph | Line Spacing.
