I've been told Windows XP Pro has a built in font-
management program. Could someone tell me what that is
called and where to find it?

All fonts must be located in C:\WINDOWS\Fonts.
They cannot be placed in subdirectories.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Fonts

You were told wrong; Windows XP has no such capability.

Perhaps what you refer to is Windows 2000 and Windows XP's systemic ability
to display and/or install Adobe type 1 fonts. Previous Windows versions
required Adobe Type Manager to accomplish these tasks.

Any and all fonts within the Windows "Fonts" folder are loaded into memory
each time you bootup. However, those fonts stored in other folders are not
loaded. This is not a bad thing! You see, all serious font collectors
possess hundreds, even thousands of fonts. Attempting to install all of them
into the Windows font folder, thus into memory, would immediately bring any
system to its virtual knees.

Personally, I never keep more than the Windows XP core fonts and those fonts
required and installed by other programs (MS Word, MS Money, etc.) within
the Windows Fonts folder.

So, how do I use all those uninstalled fonts whenever needed? Simple!
double-click on any TTF and it will be displayed in XP's fontview.exe.
Minimize (don't close) this window and that font will be available to any
program which uses and maintains a list of fonts.

Should you require further information the good folk at alt. binaries fonts
will find your posts topically spot on and be more than willing to answer
any additional font queries.

Ancient Juan
