Hello everyone!

Does anyone here know of a decent front creator program? Any help in this
matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank-you

Mia

Heh. Ain't gonna happen. I've been wanting one for years. This is one of
the categories that's been on this group's Wish List from the start of
that list.

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/FreewareWishList.php

Note the following from that site:

"REQUIREMENTS:There *is* a freeware (open source) TTF & Type 1 font
editor: PfaEdit. Problem: it requires Cygwin to run on Windows, but
Cygwin is not very easy to install and it takes hundreds of megabytes on
your hard disk too..."

Surely there are enough fonts in the world already. I`ve got about a 1000 of
the darn things for my daughter, (She designs web stuff).
best wishes..J

Hi, what about DoubleType? It's free, even opensource! Ok, 0.21 is a early
version and you need Java but it works. The Homepage:
http://doubletype.sourceforge.net/ - don't be scared of the layout ;)

Interesting find - there have been previous threads about a font creator
program. However, as a former compositor I clicked the "about em" link
http://doubletype.sourceforge.net/?about em and decided it was way above
my head.

Interesting background graphic on that website - a closeup photo of a
beat up wall baseboard. The significance of that image is beyond me I guess.

As for the program - it looks interesting, but when I click on the
download link I get a weird error message both in Mozilla AND Internet
Explorer:
_______________________________________
"It is not an effective WikiName
download&PHPSESSID=(I removed code from here) is not an effective WikiName."

As for installing and using Java, I'm still not convinced that the
Redsheriff style security hole has been dealt with. If anybody knows
different, clarification on the matter would be very welcome. Until
then, I've removed Java from my system.

I don't know what's with the PHPSESSID, but if you remove:

"&PHPSESSID=(I removed code from here)"

then the pages seem to work.

Thanks Mel. That worked.

Should have caught that myself. Guess this hangover is worse than I
thought. 80)>

Still going to have to think about whether or not I want to run the risk
involved with installing Java again though.

I know what you mean, I don't care for JAVA either. I guess I'll have to
install JAVA on the Test Platform inorder to try out DoubleType. Like
you, I've been looking for a True Type Font Editor for awhile, and this
one looks pretty good from the Screenshots.

Hi again, seems like a reply to myself :) No, there ist another chance to
create your own font. Look at http://pentacom.jp/soft/ex/font/edit.html,
there you can make it online. Greetz again Jan Peters

I couldn't make any sense of the pentacom site. The help file has English
headings but the instructions are in Japanese.

When you bring up the page it is creating the blank character in the
upper left hand corner. I you click on any of the characters, nothing
seems to happen, but the bitmap you fill in, is now being used the
character you seleceted with your mouse. In addition to to this, each
bit you blacken, incrementally fills in in minature in the previouslu
blank little window you under the character you selected.

For instance, if I click on the Capitol T Character, and then start
creating my T, each bit I add to the character in the draw Window, is
added to a tiny preview of my T appearing underneath the letter in the
grid of characters above the draw window.

Mia,

I sent the last response just to you by accident. Can you post it to
the group?

Thanks, Paul Pruitt (socrtwo)

Also by the way, did anybody mention this program? (I can't see the
posts at the moment). You can create your own font on an elongated
strip of a bitmap, and then type in a message withyour keyboard.
Pushing a button displays your message in your bitmap font that you've
created. This image of your text in your created font can then be
saved as an image.

In the Help file there instuctions on how to create a bitmap font.

By the way, there is a funky True Type special character drawing
program in Windows 2000 and XP (at the least). It's called "Private
Character Editor." In Windows XP it's here:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\eudcedit.exe.

There is some simple good Windows Help for the program, but it's too
cumbersome a method for writing in your own designed font. Note
though, if you create your font, for example by using your handwriting,
link it to all fonts for convenience (see the help), you can have your
alphabet open in character map, and drag and drop from character map,
straight into your file.

Thanks
