Any suggestions as to why I can't have a voice convo with win messenger 5
and I can with msn messenger 7? I find that a bit odd. <frown> I have am
running a win xpsp2 machine.

....you might want to consider a quick grammar check
site is short for website
sight relates to vision
candles are what is generally lit to give off
"candels" is not a word, but candelas is and candelas touches on the
luminous intensity.

So, before you advertise in a newsgroup...please check your spelling.

Ok. I made sure that the right ports are open as stated in a Microsoft
KB
article. I can't remember which one though. <frown.> Still no voice. It will
say "connecting to Jane Doe's Computer..." then time out. What now? I am
using the latest version of win messenger. I can voice over msn messenger,
but I don't want to sign in and out just to voice. I like win messenger
and I want this voice thing to work. I ran the audio wizard and everything
seems to be in order. Help, please. TIA

If you voice to Jane over Windows Messenger (both you and Jane on WM), does
it work?

You seem to have a good amount of technical knowledge. Do you know if you
have a firewall between you and the recipient which has uPnP disabled? This
may be of help.

Enabling voice and video over the 'net and across firewalls can be daunting.
If you know a lot about computers you could download and install Ethereal
and do sniffs to see what is leaving your system and what is making it to
their system as well as what is leaving their system, and what is making it
to your system.

Oh, <smiles> Thanks, but I'm ;learning as I go. I don't think there is. I am
not behind a firewall. just a router. I don't know about the others They can
chat with other people using win messenger. but I can't chat with someone
using win messenger. I'm stumped. O. BTW I made wore that UPNP was enabled
in my router.

I am not behind a firewall. I don't know if my other contacts are though.
I'm stuck. Oh, and I made sure I enabled UPNP in my router.
