XP install of interest to Patti McLeod

If ypou remember after a lot of tries with different
things, i couldn't boot from the xp cd to nstall xp home,
and for the xp pro i had installed the cd was not
available.
so, last night I put my old 5GB hard drive that alrwady
had xp and old file on it in the laptop and it came up
without a problem. so, ihave a 5g drive to at least use
email, IE, etc. In the meantime, I'll continue to research
how I can teast/fix my cd drive or try to come up wiht
other ideas. I do want to use my 40g hard drvie in the
laptop, and be able to instal/restore from my xp home cd.
thanks for your help

Per subject - of course you can't - you can upgrade to Pro from Home,
but you can't downgrade to Home from Pro without a format and
reinstall.

Thanks. I tried just about everything, including
reformatting, parititioning or not partitionoing, and
using various win98 bbot floppies or the winxp floppy
install set from the windows site. no matter what I did,
when it came time for the CD to start, it just spun for a
few seconds, and that was it. or, it displyaed a reuntime
rror, or just had blue screen (not the same shade as the
bsod. I would be glad to go through the steps with you
that I did, or follow htrough with any suggestions you
have. I would like to get my laptop back on the 40g hard
drive, and know that I can restore from my xp cd.
