I am trying to import folders from outlook into windows mail. Only 4 of the
folders will import. if I try again, it says, your folders have been
imported but all of them have not. What can I do to get all my folders
over to windows mail. Outlook was used with XP, is that the problem?

If you don't have Outlook installed on your Vista machine, you're doing
much better than we usually see since you are able to import some of
the folders, instead of the usual none at all. Windows Mail needs to
use part of Outlook to be able to understand the .pst files Outlook
stores messages in.

You may find it easier to transfer the messages first from Outlook to
Outlook Express on your old machine, then from Outlook Express
to Windows Mail.

Bring along the .wab file if you want your old contacts. After you copy the
files to a directory on the hard drive of your new machine, make sure the
copies are read-write instead of readonly before you import them into
Windows Mail

If this does not import the old contacts, click on Tools, then Windows
Contacts. If there is no Import on the toolbar, rightclick in the empty
space under the right side of the toolbar, then click on Customize This
Folder, then the triangle, then Contacts, then Apply, then OK. Click
on Import, then Windows Address Book File (Outlook Express
contacts), then Import, then find the .wab file and click on it, then
Close, then close the Contacts window.
