Folders view is showing instead of common tasks

Every time I open My Computer or My documents folders the Folders view shows on the left instead of the common tasks view. I've tried turning off the folders view by going to view\explorer bar and removing the check next to folders, and applying the view to the folder, but when I close and reopen My Computer or My Documents it goes back to the folders view.

Please help.
 
Never mind, I did some more searching and found the fix

Go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folde
Options/File Types. Click on Folder (fifth down), click Advanced and se
"open" as default. Ok your way out
