directly to my pictures? Thank you for any help. James Walsh

Download and install TweakUI for XP. You can then use it to change the
location of the \My Pictures folder.

Assuming you have Windows XP, right click on the Start button, click on
"Properties", click the "Start Menu" tab, click the "Customize" button,
click the "Advanced" tab, and -- finally, in the window under "Start
menu items", scroll down until you get to "My Pictures" and click the
radio button next to "Display as a link." OK your way out.

The above will get you into your "My Pictures" folder. If what you want
to do is to get into a sub-folder you have created within My Pictures,
e.g., "Photoshop Pix", then right click on some empty part of your desk
top, select "New" and then "Shortcut" and then click the "Browse"
button. Click on the folder you want, click "OK", then complete the Wizard.

Right-click an empty space on the Start menu, and then click Properties.
On the Start Menu tab, click Start Menu.
Click Customize, and then click the Advanced tab.
Under "My Pictures", click Display as a link
Click OK, click Apply, and then click OK.

I think this is what you want:

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/8315

Editing the Registry can have Dire Consequences!!! Download, install, run
"ERUNT" if you don't have it already! READ the ReadMe that comes with it, or
print it out, better yet.

If you "hand" edit the registry, you'll have to click on the "comdlg32"
key, and use: Edit | New>Key . Type "Placesbar" [no quotes] over the blue
"New Key" area to name your key. If you need a folder that's not on the
number list, choose "New>String value" instead of "New>Dword value" in the
righthand pane, then enter the path to the folder you want as the "value
data".

Glad you asked; I did mine.

Use TweakUI, but not to change location of My Pictures. Instead go to
Common Dialogs > Places Bar and add/replace My Pictures as one of the
"icon" locations in the left pane of the SaveAs dialog.

One more thing, James:
For the "hand editing" method, if you add a folder by "string value", go to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders .
In the right pane, add a "New>String Value" for each folder you want in the
places bar.
Enter the folder's parh as the "data". [Reboot for changes under HKLM to
take effect.]
