Hello. As you may know, new feature was introduced in Windows XP - automatic
folder content detection, e.g. video, photos, etc.. Is there any way to
switch that off? I mean totally, to make it like Windows 2000 (or ME, or 98,
whatever..)?!!

I know about "Apply to All Folders" option, and some registry tweaking, like
increase of folder types remembered, but I'd like to turn it completely off!!!

There are some 'templates' in folder's Properties. Maybe it's enough to
delete them? But where they are? :)

Greatly appreciate you help!

Perhaps you are referring to the AUTO PLAY feature - that detects various
file types.
See Kelly's link, below, for extensive info on that feature.

You can't turn it off or delete the built-in templates -- but if you don't mind losing your currently saved views, you can set a default template that will override specialized taskpanes and column selections.

The steps are as follows:

1) Open regedit & navigate to:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam"

2) Delete the subkeys named "BagMRU" and "Bags"

3) Open an ordinary document folder on the desktop or via a shortcut (so you don't have to browse to it) & configure the view to your liking. Then close the folder.

4) Return to regedit and hit "F5" to refresh the view. The "BagMRU" and "Bags" keys should be recreated.

5) Expand the "Bags" key and you should see a single subkey named "1". Select that key.

6) Press "F2" to rename the key. Rename it "AllFolders"

7) Close regedit & navigate to my pictures...it should have regular folder tasks and standard columns.

Good Luck,
Keith
