before upgrading to winXP pro my win 98 had a folder
substituted for a driveletter, the command line went
something like this: 'subs o: c:\apps' - after the upgrade
this 'drive o:' has dissapeared, but all my shortcuts are
set up to use drive o:. How can this exchange of a folder
for a drive letter be done in win XP?

The same way

subst drive1: drive2:\folder
where drive1 is the driveletter you want it to show with
drive2:\folder is of course the folder you want to show as driveletter
How to get this to autoexecute at each startup/login I don't hazard a guess
at

Slightly more involved:
Share the folder you want to show as drive
Connect (from own computer" to that share, it'll take a letter /changable)
anc check the "Reconnect at each logon"
