folder sharing Xp vs w2k

I might be mistaken but believe to remember that with w2k it was possible to
set user/pw permission for accessing folders, however I cannot find this
option with XP PRO SP2. Do I miss something or is it simply impossible?

Permissions aren't set via passwords on folders in XP; rather
permissions are granted to user groups. Make a user group for the
particular access to resources, say a group named "marketing" or "R&D"
or whatever. Then set permissions as desired and then assign users to
the new group. I think this was done the same way in Win2k, but it has
been a while since I used that os so I may be misremembering.

Actually, with WinXP, you can set permissions to either individual users, or to
groups. Assuming that you disable Simple File Sharing. When you disable Simple
File Sharing, you get Advanced File Sharing, which is equal to Win2K.

In a workgroup, W2K file sharing works just like the XP Pro file
sharing described in this article:
