Yes that's how it should work, but my XP Home won't do that! The view settings of most (not all) folders constantly change, no matter how many times I put them right, on the next opening they're totally different. Some might remain stable for days, then they'll be all over the place! Very annoying. And then there's the errors, hangs, and crashes. The problem seems to be made worse with each Windows Update

Open an explorer window, set the view to details, or whatever you like
From the Tools Menu select Folder Options
On the view tab select Apply to all folder
In the Advanced Settings scroll down until you see "Remember each folder
view settings" and select it
So now all folders have been set to details view, but if you change the vie
of a folder it should be remebered
