Hello All,
I'm hoping someone has a suggestion. I would like to be able to access a
folder and a printer with another computer. I have shared the folder and
printer, but when I try to access them from the other computer, it asks me
for a username and password to access it. The computer these are shared from
DOES NOT have a password. How can I bypass this to access the folder and
printer?

Thanks!

Since this is a Windows XP news group, I assume that the computer that
you're trying to access runs Windows XP. These steps usually solve
the problem:

1. Run the Network Setup Wizard on that computer.

2. Type this command in the Start | Run box:

net user guest /active:yes

If you still get a prompt when accessing it after those steps, the
problem is more complicated. In that case, please reply to this
message in the news group (not by E-mail) with more information to
help other people understand the problem:

1. Does the computer that you're trying to access run XP Home Edition
or XP Professional?

2. If it runs XP Professional, is simple file sharing enabled or
disabled?

3. What exactly does the prompt say? Is it asking for the "IPC$"
password?

4. What version of Windows does the other computer run?

Thank you for your help Steve,
I tried running the network setup wizard and typing the command you
suggested. Unfortunately, I'm still having the problem. To answer your
questions,
1. Both computers have Windows XP Professional SP2
2. Not entirely sure what the simple file sharing is. I right clicked the
printer and folder I want to share and set them as shared with full
permission.
3. The prompt is just a simple login, then, when I type in the name of the
computer without a password (because there is no password), it says "Windows
cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed."

Thanks again!
