Have you checked them in Control Panel and in other folders like My Computer?
If there are not anywhere then try this.

For Windows XP Professional:
1. Click Start - Run - type GPEDIT.MSC
2. Expand to
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Explorer
3. Double-click "Remove the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu" in
right side pane.
4. If it is set to "Enable" or "Not configured" then set it "Disable".

For both Windows XP and Home Edition: (Modifying registry need high
attention. Do it carefully)

1. Click Start - Run - type Regedit
2. Here expand to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
SOFTWARE
MICROSOFT
WINDOWS
CURRENTVERSION
POLICIES
EXPLORER
3. in the right-side pane check for the DWORD value NoFolderOptions
4. If it is not there then create a new DWORD value by right-clicking
NEW-DWORD
5. Type a name 'NoFolderOptions" and press Enter.
6. Double-click the entry and set the value to 0
7. Open any folder and see if Folder Options is there. If it is still not
there then Log Off and Log in again or make a restart

Hope this information helps you, let us know!

Im overtired and blunt so Im trying (real hard) to be polite.

1./ if you mean the icon in the menu BAR, right click and select "customize"
and highlight the folder options icon, "add" .

2./If you mean the menu on the left side of the window (ie:file and folder
tasks, details etc.) then you must drag your window size to become 'wider'.

3. If you mean from the actual menu (file, edit, view..) then you made a
mess only a diapered child could make and must stew in your own crapulance.
Or maybe navigate to Tools > Folder Options.

What folder do you wish to unhide? WTF do you mean anyway, If you know the
name of the folder you can type it into the address bar of any (MS) Window
(C:\documents and settings\"my hidden folder", then right click > properties
'clear hidden box' > press OK.

If I forgot some detail please don't hesitate to let me know.

I used to think girls were complicated.

Do you think this user is an advanced user? Sigh. What about just telling him to

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
2. Make sure that you are in the root folder of the partition for which you
want to gain access to the System Volume Information folder. For example, to
gain access the C:\System Volume Information folder, make sure that you are
in the root folder of drive C (at a "C:\" prompt).
3. Type the following line, and then press ENTER:
cacls "driveletter:\filename" /E /G username:F
Make sure to type the quotation marks as indicated. This command adds the
specified user to the folder with Full Control permissions.
4. Double-click the System Volume Information folder in the root folder to
open it.
5. If you need to remove the permissions after troubleshooting, type the
following line at a command prompt:
cacls "driveletter:\Filename" /E /R username
This command removes all permissions for the specified user.

You're welcome. Sorry for sounding rude (thats what I feel like after a 70
hour work week though).

Out of curiosity, which of the options I gave you actually helped?

Dear RajKohli,

I had the same problem as Melwood after a virus hit my laptop. Fixed it with
your tip. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the virus left me with another problem: I can't delete any
folders! I can delete files but deleting folders gets this error message
"Cannot delete *foldername*: It is being used by another person or program".

Would be grateful if anyone could help with this.
