OS: Windows XP
Due to some virus activity it seems, the "Folder Option" in the Windows
Explorer menu has disappeared.
The virus was subsequently removed but the option has not been restored.
All attempts to modify the registry have failed (Access to the registry is
denied even though the login is through Administrator account)
Re-installation of the OS has not helped either.
Presently unable to access the folder option by any means.
What are the options remaining to restore the menu short of re-installation
of the OS?

See if this can help with the registry access problem.

Description
Removes the Folder Options item from all Windows Explorer menus and from
Control Panel. As a result, users cannot use the Folder Options dialog box.

This entry stores the setting of the Remove the Folder Options menu item
from the Tools menu Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the
registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the
policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the
registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
-----------------------------------------------
0 (or not in the registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. The
Folder Options item appears.

1 The policy is enabled. The Folder
Options item is removed.

The Folder Options dialog box lets users set many properties of Windows
Explorer, such as Active Desktop, Web View, Offline Files, File Types, and
hidden system files.

Change method
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds
to the Remove the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu Group Policy
(User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows
Explorer).

problem sorted! Bravo! Good Day!

Maybe it's a virus or something else called Flashy.exe after plugging a memory stick on my computer which also infected by flashy. I used McAfee and quarantine those infected files. Lastly follow your instructions and well done! problems are sorted! Thank you very much indeed!
