folder opening problem

hi i have a problem in opening my folders in desktop ..... the thing is
i am not able to open only folders and not any other things and that
too if i copied that folder to some other location i am able to open
that same...... i am using windows XP ........ i am having this
problem for the past 2 week only ..... ( i think after i modified
something in register i am facing this problem ..... please suggest me
a way to rectify this problem.....

Reverse your registry hack, if necessary by using System Restore.
 
Don't Screw with the registry unless you are sure you know what you're doing.
Also, remember to back up the registry if you are ever going to change
anything in it. Take Pegasus's advice and do a system restore from the Start
All Programs> Accessories > System tools folder. If that doesn't work you
