Folder Access Denied

I had to reinstall WinXP on this machine because of a virus issue, and replaced everything in the Windows folder though kept everything else on the drive. When reinstalling I created a different user name so XP wouldn't overwrite the critical files in My Documents of the original user name I had. The machine is back up & running fine, but when I try to access the original user folder to import My Documents & my Outlook .pst file, I am getting an "access denied" error. I restored those files & folders from a tape back-up to a new folder on my hard drive, and get the same error when I try to access it. I've logged in as the administrator, but that won't help either. Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to get in to this restricted folder so I can restore my files!

Thanks!

Hi Don,

You need to take ownership of them. Right-click the folder, select
properties. Go to the security tab and click advanced. You can take control
of the folders on the owner tab. For the security tab to appear in a WinXP
Pro system, you must disable simple file sharing in the control panel/folder
options/view tab. For a WinXP Home system, you must restart in safe mode and
logon as administrator. More details here:
