Floppy drive keeps stirring

I am running Windows XP. Yesterday, I briefly used my 3.5" floppy drive for
a few typical copy operations. I noticed that, a short time after safely
ejecting the disk, the drive light went on and the drive stirred endlessly.
Windows got confused and I had to restart.

Since then, my floppy drive will occasionally stir for about a second with
the light on (as if it's reading a disk). Very frustrating.

It is a fairly new drive, and Windows seems pretty healthy at this time.
Anybody know why this might be happening?

Hi,

Start/run regedit

Click edit/find

Search for A:\

It will most likely turn up in a key containing MRU (for Most Recently
Used).

Highlight the string in the right pane by left clicking it, click
registry/export and save it to a location you can find later if necessary.
Then delete that string, and agree to the warning.

If there are problems resulting from the deletion, you can simply
double-click the exported copy to return things to the way they were. If all
goes well, then you can simply delete the exported copy at a later date.
Close the registry editor, you may need to reboot, but the effect should be
immediate.
