I have had problems with viruses and had to reboot system. I saved work onto
a floppy but when trying to copy to hard drive it says it's doing it but goes
on for ever without any copy being made. It also makes a strange noise
whenever I put the floppy in. It's a new system with XP. I know I can format
the floppy but will then loose all my work. HELP!!!

Hello Astiria,

Please make sure you anti-virus software is working ok
and that you still have membership time left with the
anti-virus company. I will assume you have membership
time left.

Un-Install SP2:
- Go to Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and
select SP2

Un-Install your Antivirus software.
- Go to Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and
select the Anti-Virus program and un-install it.
- Now get your Anti-Virus CD out and try to install it,
update the virus definitions and then try to scan the
floppy for viruses.
- If that does not work, read the next part.

The best, cheapest and quickest way to fix this problem
and get done within 1 1/2 hrs:
- Next boot to the WinXP CD
- Select Repair and follow other screen instructions.
- After it Reboots go to the Desktop.
- Run a 3rd Party Windows Registry cleaner program.
- Defrag the Windows Registry file.
- Then reboot.
- After it Reboots go to the Desktop.
- Install your Anti-Virus Software and update your
definitions.
- Put your floppy in and scan it for viruses and then try
to copy your files to your computer.
- Then go to the Windows Update Site and download and
install all of them again without SP2.
- Wait for a while until Microsoft gets SP2 fixed.

If you would like to correspond further, I have created a
temporary email address you can contact me at and I have
images that would show more details about how to do these
tasks:
