I copied files from my old (Windows 98) machine from a zip drive onto a floppy (3.5) so that I could transfer it to my new (Windows XP). Everytime I try to open the floppy on my new machine, it tells me the disk is not formatted, do I want to format it..I tell it No, because I don't want to lose the information that is on the disk. It won't let me go any further. How do I get some of my files from the old computer to the new one? Please keep in mind that i am only semi-computer literate
Thanks

Hi Linda,

WinXP is a lot more touchy about reading floppies than is Win98. Any
misalignment or problems and it says "not gonna work", whereas Win98 is very
forgiving on these things. Format the disks in the XP machine, then bring
them to the W98 machine and transfer the files to them, then return to the
WinXP machine and copy them off.

Another solution that was mentioned in another post was: Load the files to
another, non XP, machine that will read the files and e-mail them to the XP
machine as an attachment.

I thought, that is one "heck" of an idea.
