I recently was not able to access a floppy that I had just
used 2 days before. Message was the disk was not
formatted. When I attempted to format a blank disk, I got
the message unable to format. I am using Windows XP and
have used the floppy more than once. What could be the
problem?
Thanks

This is why I no longer use floppy disks. There are a couple of things
that could be wrong. First, it could be that the floppies you are using
have gone bad, lost their magnetism, been damaged, etc. Though this is
likely, it is also possible that your floppy drive has finally died.

Check the cables inside the computer to make sure that nothing came
loose, try uninstalling the floppy drive from Device Manager (Click
Start-Run-Type devmgmt.msc and click OK), and finally try a different
floppy drive if possible. I would highly suggest spend a good $10-$20
for one of those USB Thumb Drives. You can usually get a 128 MB one for
about $20.
