This Windows warning popped up, and since then everything on my screen looks
squashed -- desktop, email, texts, photos. Any idea how to correct?
Restarting didn't help. Never seen it before.

Change your scrfeen resolution. You likely have a widescreen monitor set at
a 4:3 resolution.

Thanks for the tip. How do I do this? Assuming it's on my install disk(s),
how do I find it among all the other junk?

Thanks for your advice. Where do I find this to change it? When I looked in
settings, the only resolution setting I found only offered different pixel
settings, but nothing to change ratio or aspect. Thoughts?

Right click on a blank area of your desktop, (your background photo is fine)
Choose properties, Choose settings, Set your screen resolution with the
slider, (this also changes your
Aspect ratio) you can choose advanced tab for DPI settings, (dots per inch)
