I have just had some strange network trouble. I have 2 comps (win xp home + pro) both with integrated network cards. i am connecting them with a crossover cable. It has worked fine for a long time. I needed to use some of the parts of 1 computer for something, and when i put it all back together... i got a message on both computers saying that the "Network cable is unplugged." So, i moved both of them to 100 mb Full Duplex and that got rid of the message. But now... they wont respond to each other in any way... i cannot access the other computer, share a dial-up connection, a printer, or anything.

One computer's network lights are for the most part always on... The other computer has 1 on all the time and the other flashes very quickly. Every once in a while ill get a message that pops up says Network Cable Unplugged but it goes away in a couple seconds. This has been really annoying that it just stopped working.

I have reinstalled drivers... tried all different speeds of connection (and combinations of speeds) i have restarted both comps with cables in and out. Im pretty new to networking and need even the most basic suggestions. Thanks

Possibly you've fried one or both cards. Difference in ground levels, static discharge.... you name it.
Knowing the exact model of netcards you can contact the maker's support and ask what
exactly means the state of LEDs you're observing.
