Flashing Hard Drive Light and Hour Glass

My new laptop running XP has started to constantly access
the hard drive (light flashin) and flashing the Hour Glass
at the same time. This all began when I hooked up to our
home network. If I have the network cable in it does not
do this, but when I pull it the flashing begins. It shows
in network connection that it is disabled. Any ideas??
I have NO other programs or tasks running when it is doing
this....Thanks

for your home lan do you use workgroup or domain

Tends to be caused by the fact that it is waiting for response from a DHCP
server, which it can't find with the network cable out. Use a static IP
address.
