Flashing File Menu In Windows Explorer

Running SP2. A while back, I started getting very strange behaviour from the
Windows Explorer File Menu. To create a new folder, I'll click on a folder
in the tree pane on the left, then go to the file menu and click New/Folder.
Now the menu flashes for about a tenth of a second. I can keep clicking on
the file menu, but only get a brief flash. I can see all of the file menu
options, but they don't stay on the screen long enough to select any of them.

Any ideas out there what the problem might be?

Thanks,
John Schneider

Anyone? Even a wild guess???

To create a new folder, I have to drop to a DOS prompt, then navigate to the
folder, then do a MD command. This really sucks!

:-(

Perhaps there is a problem with the context menu. Do you have strange
r-click menu behavior?

I wouldn't think so. I run virus scans, Spybot and Adaware at least weekly.

I'm wondering if something I installed, way back when, that adds an item to
the right-click menu, might have somehow screwed this up. I've looked into
this before, but couldn't find anything unusual in the registry.

Thanks anyway for the ideas and feedback!
John
