Hi there,

I've got a flash card from Toshiba (512MB) and I want to
mark it as non-removable, but Toshiba doesn't provide a
utility.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance
Volker

Only one idea.

If you can use only one partition, then you could try following.

XPe can boot and load from removable medium.

Use registry configured RAM EWF solution that I have described on
www.xpefiles.com
This would allow you to configure EWF without need for extra partition.

I have never tried EWF on removable medium but according to some sources
this should work since EWF driver itself starting with new QFE's does not
check removable bit.

Let me know if it really works.

Slobodan

What QFE is required so that EWF does not check for removable media?
This would be an incredible break through for MS as gettign removable media
is costly and time consuming especially in the development process.

Hi David,

The last EWF driver update is Q823025.
But since I don't have any removable medium right now, I can't try this.

Use my component from www.xpefiles.com for registry setup of EWF. And let us
know if this work.

Right you can't use XP to format removable media as NTFS, but you probably
would not want to do that.

Even is you disable few things to make NTFS less chattier, it will still
have more impact on your EWF RAM consumption.

Hi Slobodan,

I think I need two partitions - one for XPE and one for
the application which needs a writable partition.

If I switch to another flash card, which would you prefer?

Regards Volker

I can't tell you that, but I can tell you few things that you should
consider.

1. Amount of cards that you will need to buy.
2. Price of cards.
3. Number of writes supported by medium.
4. If any special driver is provided with card and what extra features it
will provide you with.
5. If card is marked as non-removable when you buy it or you must use some
util.
6. Max speed of card.

Regards,
Slobodan
