A lot of Internet content uses Flash movies. Also newer
prgrams such as MS Office 2003 has demos in Flash. But my
Windows XP and IE 6 won't play Flash. I've worked with
both Microsoft and Macromedia and have tried all their
advice. Macromedia Shockwave works in Microsoft
programs, but not Flash Player.I installed Netscape on
the computer and Flash movies will play in Netscape. So
it appears that the problem is in Microsoft software. I
tried to work with my Active X controls but can't seem to
get things set to be able to use this essential program.
Any help out there will be appreciated.

Try this:
Open internet options/settings/view objects
Right click the control in question and select properties.
Take a note of the GUID, something like this:
{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}

Then review this post:

If you have an item in this key using that GUID, then it's
effectively disabled.
