Flash Card will not boot DOS or XPE

I have been trying to install XPE on a flash card for some
time with no luck. I have been through all the steps for
setting the partition as active, running bootprep, etc
multiple times. I always get a blinking cursor in the
upper left hand of a black screen. I recently tried to
put DOS on a CF card and have gotten the same result.
Could this mean the CF card is damaged or possibly a
problem with the CPU card? I am able to copy and transfer
files from the CF card and they work fine. Everything
works fine except trying to boot only from the card. I
set up a dual partition system with a hard drive attached
and was able to get FBA to run from the card. Any help
would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ryan

Ryan,

Is your card marked as fixed? If you're not sure, you may try to create a
second partition on if with Disk Manager. If it works, it is probably marked
fixed. How do you connect the card to you system? IDE adapter?
Also, you won't need to bootprep the card if you format it in NTFS.
I don't think your CF card is damaged since you are able to run FBA on it.

Hate to reply to myself, but just remembered that you will get "Operating system not found" fi the partition was not marked active.
Sandisk used to mark the flash cards removeable (See KM's message) and XP would not boot off it. They have a little utility to mark it otherwise, but you have to get it from them. I don't know if any other manufacturer does the same thing.

I have gotten the utility from Sandisk and run it to mark
the CF as non-removable. I also marked the partition as
active. I answered an earlier thread that I sent in. I
talked to the CPU manufacturer and it could be a problem
on their end.

Thanks for the help

Ryan
