Heres the scenario;
I installed Windows XP Home Edition on a new system a little over 4 weeks
ago (legit retail boxed version). I was waiting for a new broadband
connection to be installed before activating it. Anyway, I was called away
on business for 2 weeks to find that, not only had the 30 day activation
period elapsed, but in his wisdom a friend of mine had 'assumed' I had used
an illegal copy and figured he would be doing me a favour by trying to use
an activation crack on it.
Now, whatever crack it was he used, is now causing the system to restart as
soon as it reaches the 'welcome' screen. This occurs both in normal startup
and in safe mode.
Normally, I would simply reinstall from scratch and start again. However, I
had installed (or rather had installed for me) a program that requires a
technician to install onsite (and hence does not come cheap!).
So, what I need to know is how can I get XP fixed without having to format
and, more importantly, keeping the programs that are installed? I have
tried a repair install, but this has unfortunately not worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
