Had a hard drive crash on my Dell. Technician showed up to fix it with a new
drive that had nothing loaded on it. Since then my monitor has shown up as a
"default monitor". As a result I cannot change the resolution. Any advise?

Go to Dell's web site. Download and install the latest driver
for your display adapter. They may be listed under video
drivers. If you're not sure what adapter is installed on your
computer enter the numbers from the service tag on the back of
your system here:

Good luck

I actually disagree with the previous two posts. While having non-generic
display adaptor drivers is important and fixes many problems, your specific
problem is with the less oft-mentioned monitor "drivers." These are
essentially files that let the system know what resolutions, color depths,
and refresh rates a given monitor can support. With the default monitor, you
may not have access to all the capabilities of your present monitor, and it
is even possible to damage it by using an unsupported refersh rate (although
the default monitor supports the bare minimums so this is unlikely). You
should go to the website of the monitor vendor and look for drivers for the
specific model. If you cannot find them, you could check Windows Update under
hardware updates. If that does not work, you will have to settle with what
you have.

Hope this is helpful.
