Firmware Updates

There are many ways to do this. Here's one: Many DVD drive manufacturers
have a free utility that will show you what firmware version is on your
drive.

Just to add to what others have said, a firmware update is kind of like a
bios update if something goes wrong during the install your drive will be
dead. if your burner is doing everything you need/want it to do, leave it
alone.

That's great advice.

I take a deep breath and don't move during firmware updates.

They might have just taken three weeks off my life span.

The reason for my question is because my DVD RW will write to RW discs but
won't erase. I have been in touch with a forum about this and they say I
probably need a firmware update.

Firmware updates usually come with notes that indicate what, if any,
problems are solved by the latest update. If you don't see your problem
listed, you would do well to follow the advice of an earlier poster and
not update the firmware.

I hope the firmware helps you. If your writer was fine before and this
just started happening, the firmware likely will do you no good.
