ina nutshell it sucks quite a bit...to see for yourself
go to http://www.grc.com and check out the shields up
section.

after seeing this I ended up installing another firewall
from Sygate (which is free for personal use by the way)

How does XP Pro's firewall rate compared with others on
the market?

Thanks

On my system it totally stealthed all inbound traffic. All ports closed
according to the 'Sheild's Up' and 'PCFlank' tests.

However it does not handle outgoing 'messages'. Having tried many free
versions I find this "Outpost" the best for me. It gives me the easiest
controll and maximum options from the others I've tried.

Easy to figure and configure.
And free. Just wade thru the site for the free version.

Cheers to that but, unlike your statement, I think OP can be a bit of a
learning curve IF you want to use it to it's ultimate ability and configure
your own rules. I love it and use it exclusively. www.outpostfirewall.com
for the beta tester in everyone... Lots of links and help if you go that
route.

Please note that Steve has a bone to pick with MS. He DOES NOT RUN AN
ANTI-BIASED HELP PAGE. Also note that I have great respect for him and
his work. I'm just pointing out the fact of the matter.
