Steven

Recently, after installing Norton Personal Friewall (part
of Norton Internet security 2002), I encountered a
problem with windows update.I could not download updates
from the windows update site. Internet Explorer gave me
a "page cannot be displayed error."

After turning the firewall off for a second, I returned
to the site and the site worked as normal. Does anyone
know where I can get the information to fix this problem,
or does anyone have the information?

I am using a dial-up connection with Netzero high speed
as my isp (I believe that I am behind a proxy.)

Thank You
Steven

AFAIK, Windows Update doesn't need anything open inbound - how have you
configured your firewall w/r/t outbound ports?

I wouldn't disable the firewall while connected to the Internet for
anything - and it sounds unlikely to me that you're behind a proxy server.

Greetings --

You might want to check your configuration of NIS. It never
interfered with my use of Windows Update when I was using it.
