Firewall

Hi there,

I'm trying to set up the Firewall in Windows XP Home
Edition. When I Right click on the AOL Dial up option and
click on Properties, nothing happens.

I've tried going to Network tasks, Change settings of this
connection (having highlighted my AOL Icon) but again
nothing happens.

I'm an admin user of this Station.

It seems to work OK if I click on the Local Area
Connection.

Any suggestions?

I don't think the XP firewall is compatable with AOL . Jym

You can't use the Windows XP Firewall with AOL. you might look to a
firewall like Zonealarm. (still free) www.zonelabs.com

He might also look into using a "real" ISP, instead of a "content provider"!

Greetings --

You'll either need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible
with AOL, or switch to a real ISP that is compatible with the real
Internet..

AOL is an on-line content provider that ignores international
Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products,
and has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with
both WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing
feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed
to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include
enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS.
