My three machine (the newest running a WindowsXP home edition) are connected
by a switch that runs to a router, then to a cable modem. One machine - that
was the most used - runs Win98SE and Norton SystemWorks with Norton Personal
Firewall. The new XP machine came with McAfee virus software (which is
running) and a McAfee firewall which I have NOT installed. I was told XP has
it's own firewall but McAfee told me that the XP firewall is actually a
watered down version of theirs.

Q1) If I choose to install the McAfee, do I have to uninstall something on
XP and if so... what?
Q2) Would my security increase significantly with a full blown firewall on
this XP?
Q3) Is installation of McAfee firewall recommended in this case?

which mcafee firewall do you have? i would recommend utilizing the mcafee firewall versus the xp firewall. the xp firewall only blocks incoming traffic. the mcafee firewall blocks traffic in both directions

XP firewall will block your own network computers from being able to access
your file and printer sharing.
