Firewall troubles in XP Pro

I have been running the firewall in pro for some time,
but installed (and then uninstalled) some anti-spam
software and now cannot restart the firewall.

When I try tod o so I get an error message saying:

What anti-spam software? There are only a few legitimate peices
of anti-spam software that I trust AdAware and SpyBot.

If you have the name of the application and the error message it
might help.
