I never used the firewall in sp1 because I have a wired router. Is it OK to
keep the firewall on in sp2 along with a wired router? I do not run any
other software firewall.

Robert,

Yes, the MS firewall will work fine with a wired router. You should also
consider installation of ZoneAlarm (Free version for personal use). MS
firewall ONLY prevents incoming intrusions while the ZoneAlarm products
protect against both incoming and outgoing intrusions.

(watch out for line wrapping)

NAT firewalls on routers are good, but additional protection is advised.

With a hardware firewall in place, a soft firewall will register zero
intrusions.. this can't be said of anything outgoing however.. use Zonealarm
or Sygate firewall and then shut off the SP2 offering..

Thanks all. I reinstalled zonealarm and windows sp2 recognized it and turned
off the windows firewall. This makes me feel more comfortable.
